Nothing has changed. They continue to use deceptive business practices, including requiring customers to pay for an additional 30 days after you submit a cancellation notice. Be sure to read the cancellation terms carefully before signing up—or better yet, save yourself the stress and take your business elsewhere.

Nice gym. Smelled a little strong but seemed pretty clean and while it was busy I didn't have to wait for any machines.

This place is gross and it’s clear that no one from the parent company has looked at it in decades. Stuff is in appalling condition. I’m pretty sure that the soap dispensers have never been refilled with soap. They’ve just been adding water every time it runs low, so now it’s just water with a slightly orange tint. When I canceled, no one even bothered to ask me why. Some of the staff are nice? I guess?

Evanston Athletic club meets my fitness needs, and I plan to remain a member. However, there are strong signs that the parent company, Chicago Athletic Clubs, is cutting costs by not doing basic maintenance. For me, this is most apparent in the men's locker room, as an example. I've uploaded four photos as documentation of a few of the problems. One of the most comical is that there are containers of dish soap, instead of hand soap, to wash your hands with. The benches are desperately in need of new varnish. The men's showers have been seriously neglected. Sometimes a shower doesn't work. I had a stall where when I turned the water off, the shower did not stop. Here's a great example of the disrepair the shower doors are in. The doors originally had a swivel lock, but these apparently stopped working. So management put on latch locks instead of replacing the original non-functioning ones. It is rather unsigtly, but that's not the real problem. Many of those latch locks now are not operable, so a man using the shower cannot lock the door in some of them.There are other upkeep problems with the men's locker room. I have been coming here for years, and while it's not a great gym, it's fairly good value in the area - especially since there are no alternatives close to downtown Evanston. A lot of areas are showing wear and tear unfortunately, and there are little or no renovations happening there. I always wonder if there is a manager actually running this place - it seems to just run on auto-pilot. It's also worth noting that cancelling here is difficult, so make sure you cancel in person during business hours. I had put in a cancel request in January with the front desk staff, only to hear various excuses as to why my membership won't be cancelled until April for both me and my girlfriend. And that's after talking to someone from membership in early February. For example, a stair master broke and instead of fixing or replacing it, it was simply removed and took months to get fixed. There seems to always be a machine out of order, and nothing, and I repeat, nothing has been updated there in a very long time. Displays on rowing machines are broken, cardio machines are missing cup holders, some elliptical machines don't work well etc etc The locker rooms are okay, but could use some updates.
